UHF RFID Tag Encoding
UHF RFID tag encoding is the process of encoding a UHF RFID tag with project-specific information by modifying the UHF RFID chip. UHF RFID tags come from the manufacturer in a default state as defined by the technical specification for that UHF RFID chip type. To encode a UHF RFID tag, specialized software and hardware are required. UHF RFID tags can be encoded by GoToTags as a service when buying UHF RFID tags or can be encoded later by the customer.
UHF RFID Tag Encoding Steps
In general the process of encoding a UHF RFID tag consists of these steps:
- Collect and prepare the data to be encoded to the UHF RFID tag; often in a UHF RFID tags encoding file
- Knowing or determining the specific UHF RFID chip type to be encoded
- Writing data to the EPC and/or user memory banks of the UHF RFID chip
- Configuring any special features of the UHF RFID chip (locking/perma-locking…)
- Reading the UHF RFID chip TID and other chip information
- Saving the encoded UHF RFID tag data for later use; often in an encoded UHF RFID tags file
