Amtrack Uses Heavy Duty NFC Tokens on Train Tracks for Service Records
NFC (Near Field Communication) technology has a long history in transportation, particularly for ticketing systems. Its role continues to expand. Recently, GoToTags collaborated with a major U.S. railroad to integrate NFC tags directly into the rail infrastructure. At key junction points, where conditions can be tough with exposure to dirt, water, and chemicals, typical NFC tags would not be suitable. This is where specially designed, industrial-grade NFC tags from GoToTags come into play.
These heavy duty NFC tokens are made from hardened plastic and epoxy and can be securely glued or bolted to rails. Their material makeup and attachment options offer resilience in challenging environments. They can withstand dirt, water, small impacts, light chemicals and other such environmental aggressors. Each tag is uniquely encoded with GoToTags NFC Encoder software, providing precise identification for every junction point on the railroad. This project marks a significant shift in how NFC technology is used, embedding it as a critical component of the rail system itself.
