GoToTags Software Credits
GoToTags software is commercial, closed-source software that requires payment based on usage. It does not use a pre-paid license or subscription model, and all features are available to every user without restrictions. An account can use the software across multiple computers and locations. Credits are purchased in advance through credit packs, and each interaction within the software deducts from the account’s credit balance. Additional credits can be purchased at any time. A positive credit balance is required to operate the software. Technical support is provided to all customers with active credits.
How it Works
GoToTags software is pre-paid, usage based commercial software. Users are in complete control of if, when and how much they pay for the software.
- Users create an account with a verified email address.
- New accounts receive a no-cost 100 credit pack to try out the software. No credit card required or other commitments and no subscription to cancel.
- As accounts use the software, credits are consumed based on the interaction type and the credit pack’s associated interaction credit rate.
- At any point a new credit pack can be purchased. The cost per credit (CPC) is based on the prevailing rate and quantity purchased.
- In the case where an account has multiple active credit packs, credits are consumed from the oldest credit pack first in a first-in, first-out (FIFO) process.
- If the credit balance drops to 0, the software will not operate.
- Usage is tracked in the GoToTags Cloud, providing detailed history, accountability and support for future usage forecasting.
In the future, additional features will be added, including auto loading of credits to ensure the credit balance does not drop to 0 disrupting business operations.
Why Credits
Credit and usage based pricing models have become increasingly common, as they align users’ desire for predictable and transparent costs with the software provider’s need to invest in ongoing development and deliver value to a broad range of users. This alignment supports a long-term, dependable relationship in which users can rely on the software for critical business operations.
Users typically fall into two usage patterns: project-based and continual. Project-based users engage with the software for specific, defined projects that occur with variable frequency and timing. In contrast, continual users operate with time-based run rates, such as a certain number of interactions per month or year.
- For project-based users, credit packs can be purchased to match exact usage needs, providing clear unit costs with minimal waste or financial risk.
- For continual users, the pricing model offers flexibility to achieve lower unit costs through larger upfront purchases. The further in advance credits are purchased, the lower the average cost per credit.
All users benefit from:
- A no-cost trial period
- Low upfront investment requirements
- Predictable and transparent per-unit costs with no hidden fees
- Minimal waste, with no costly underutilized subscriptions
- Full access to the complete software feature set
- Ongoing software enhancements and bug fixes
- Seamless scalability from early prototypes to large-scale production deployments
- Access to email, chat and phone technical support, no need for a dedicated in-house RFID expert
“But I just want to buy it”
Some users prefer a one-time purchase model. However, because the software is used in a wide range of applications, usage volumes and timeframes, a fixed-price license or subscription does not fit most use cases. The pre-paid, credit-based pricing model provides fairness, flexibility, and scalability for all usage patterns. It also helps ensure that costs remain aligned with the actual value received.
Current Price
The following pricing applies to credit pack purchases and interaction usage during the first half of 2025 (January 1, 2025 to June 30, 2025). Each credit pack is sold at the prevailing rate at the time of purchase. Credits from new purchases cannot be added to previously purchased credit packs.
The pricing for new credits and the interaction credit rate can change every 6 months (H1-2025, H2-2025, H1-2026…).
Credits
Credit pricing follows a graduated tiered model, where the cost of each credit depends on the quantity tier it falls into. The total cost of the credit pack is the sum of all credits priced according to their respective tiers. Lower-quantity tiers have higher per-credit prices, while higher-quantity tiers offer lower prices. As a result, purchasing more credits at once reduces the average cost per credit (CPC) and cost per interaction (CPI).
The minimum credit pack purchase is $25, which includes 500 credits.
Credits | Unit Price (USD) |
---|---|
For the first 1 to 500 | $25 (minimum purchase) |

1,234 USE_NFC Interactions
1,234 USE_NFC interactions * 0.50 interaction credit rate (ICR) = 617 credits
617 credits:
Total Cost: $30.27
Cost Per Credit: $30.27 / 617 credits = $0.049 CPC
Cost Per Interaction: $30.27 / 1,234 interactions = $0.025 CPI
70,000 PRINT_ENCODE_UHF Interactions
70,000 PRINT_ENCODE_UHF interactions * 0.30 interaction credit rate (ICR) = 21,000 credits
21,000 credits:
First 500 × $0.00 + $25.00 = $25.00 (minimum purchase)
Next 500 × $0.045 = $22.50
Next 4,000 × $0.040 = $160.00
Next 5,000 × $0.035 = $175.00
Next 11,000 × $0.030 = $330.00
Total Cost: $712.50
Cost Per Credit: $712.50 / 21,000 credits = $0.034 CPC
Cost Per Interaction: $712.50 / 70,000 interactions = $0.010 CPI
Policies
Expiration
Credits within a pack expire one year from the pack’s purchase date, as defined by the invoice date. Any unused credits at the time of expiration are forfeited. When applying usage, the system deducts credits from the oldest available credit pack first (FIFO).
Refunds
Credit packs are refundable only if all of the following conditions are met:
- No usage has been applied to the credit pack
- The refund request is made within two weeks of the credit pack’s invoice date
Refunds are only issued for full, unused credit packs. Partial or prorated refunds are not available. If these conditions are met, please contact us to request a refund.
Transfer
Credits are tied to the account that purchased the credit pack and cannot be transferred to other accounts. An account and its associated credits may be used across multiple devices and locations, provided they remain within the same organization.
A future update will introduce support for organization-level credit balances, allowing credits to be shared across multiple accounts within the same organizational group.
Taxes
Credit pack purchases may be subject to applicable sales tax in certain jurisdictions, based on the billing address listed on the sales invoice. For specific details, please contact us. Any additional taxes, fees, or VAT imposed by local authorities are not included and are the sole responsibility of the user.
Disputes
If a payment is disputed or refunded, a corresponding amount of credits will be removed from the account. If those credits have already been used, the account’s credit balance may become negative, and access to the software may be restricted until the balance is resolved. Repeated or unresolved disputes may result in account suspension.
Fraud and Misuse
Misuse of the GoToTags system or violation of the Terms of Service may result in the banning of the associated account, devices and/or IP addresses. Any unused credits at the time of enforcement will be forfeited without refund.
Prohibited behavior includes, but is not limited to, creating multiple accounts to abuse the no-cost trial credit pack, attempting to circumvent system controls, exploiting pricing mechanisms, or accessing features in a manner inconsistent with intended use.
GoToTags reserves the right to investigate suspected misuse and may request additional information to verify account legitimacy. We also reserve the right to deny access to the software at our sole discretion in cases of fraud, abuse or policy violations.
Users may contact support to request a review if they believe a ban or restriction was applied in error.
