University of Michigan Uses NFC Wristbands for MHacks

Every year the University of Michigan hosts MHacks, the world’s largest 36-hour hackathon.With 1,700 students registered, MHacks 2013 was set to have record-breaking hackathon attendance. U of M reached out to GoToTags for NFC silicone wristbands that attendees could wear throughout the duration of the hackathon.

The university’s biggest challenges were getting the wristbands on time and fitting the cost into their student budget. Luckily, GoToTags had more than enough wristbands in stock which coincidentally happened to be in the U of M color palette. We delivered the wristbands on time and the event drew a record 1,214 people from roughly 100 schools across the country. At the end of the 36-hour hackathon, three students from the University of Maryland won the grand price for their Smart Recycle Bin. They posed with their winning invention proudly wearing their blue GoToTags silicone wristbands.
