Desktop App: NFC Tag Tools Operation

The Desktop App implements features via several operations; the NFC Tag Tools operation is for working with singular NFC tags across multiple NFC readers.

Purpose

The NFC Tag Tools operation should be used for:

  • Working with a single NFC tag
  • Examining an NFC tag’s full memory
  • Writing data to a single NFC tag
  • Editing data on an NFC tag
  • Reading data from NFC tags when the data does not need to be saved

The NFC Tag Tools operation is not intended for:

  • Encoding batches of NFC tags
  • Reading batches of NFC tags and storing their data

Tag Reading

To read an NFC tag:

  1. Ensure your NFC reader is detected and enabled
  2. Place an NFC tag on your NFC reader
  3. Select either the NDEF memory or Raw memory view

Tag Editing

To edit an NFC tag:

  1. Place the tag on the NFC reader
  2. In the top bar, select the “Edit NFC Tag” button
  3. Under the “NDEF” tab:
    • Click the “Add NDEF Record” and select an NDEF record type to add it
    • Click the “X” to remove an NDEF record or the “Clear” button to remove all
  4. Under the “Chip” tab (the name of this tab will vary based on the chip type):
    • Check the “Lock” checkbox to permanently lock a tag
    • Edit chip-specific memory based on the tag chip type
